Mother's Day is a very important day for me. Not because I'm a mom but because I have had such a strong role model to grow up with as my mother. Growing up I couldn't call her my best friend, we hardly got along. All I wanted back then was a "cool" mom, but she knew I needed her as my mother, not as my friend. Though she could be tough at times when it came to boyfriends and late nights, it's because she knew I needed boundaries. It took me years to realize that when I thought she was "against me" during my teenage years, she took the hard road and was the mom she knew I needed. She is such a warm loving person, it's no surprise at all that her Grandkids ask for weekends spent at Nona & Pop-Pop’s house. There is never a dull moment whenever you are around Nona, BABS, also known as my mother. Now many years later I'm so proud I get to not only call her my mother and our Nona but my very best friend as well.
