summer staples

SUMMER STAPLES

Jean shorts + dusters. That's what I'll pretty much be living in this summer.

As my body is changing everyday dusters are the perfect layering piece that gives you a little extra coverage. You can wear them over bathing suits, shorts, and pants as well! They work with so much. I am deeming them the best pregnancy hack! They are extremely slimming because they basically cut your body in half. I have also found I can wear my pre-pregnancy clothes a bit longer by using a duster as a layering piece as it hides any tugs or pulls on clothing. I love a brand I was introduced to through a friend, Walker & Wade. Here are a few of my favorite dusters I wore on my most recent vacation. HEREHERE, and HERE.

I swear the moment I turned 30, the perfect jean shorts became hard to find. I have two that I love. The first pair, HERE, has more of a boyfriend fit. I ordered a size up, and they still fit 20 weeks pregnant. I also think they are slimming because of the baggy fit. I've had them for three years. Perfect to wear over a bathing suit because of the extra room. The second pair, HERE, is slimming because of the high waist, perfect when you want to do a little front tuck. These are a bit more slim cut so they will hug your body a bit more. These two cuts are very different. Love them both!

For accessories, THIS is my favorite hat this season + I love THIS bag.

some of Ray's favorites

vaca staples

ray1.JPG

Ray doesn’t shop very often. He has his summer staples and they seem to last a lifetime. He has a super casual style as he grew up on a beach town on the ocean. Ray was only able to spend a few days with us on vacation due to his work schedule so he didn’t need much but here are some of his favorites that he brought.

FOR THE FEET

SOCKS

Guys and their socks. Am I right? Huge fans of Bombass over here. SHOP HERE They also have great no-show options. The price tag is more than your average pair but with this quality you need a lot less.

FLIP FLOPS

He’s been wearing the same pair since I met him. Renews every so often. Havianas have been around forever. SEE BELOW.

BOAT SHOES

He has had a few different styles throughout the years and breaks them in very fast. We stick to Sperry, they wear beautifully. SEE BELOW

EVERYTHING ELSE

SHORTS + PANTS

Again everything super casual! He wears a 7 inch in length for the shorts and has had the khakis for years. SEE BELOW

PULL-OVERS

My two favorite pull overs he owns made it on the trip. The vintage crew neck pull over below and the Fat Face zip up. SEE BELOW

SWIM + WORKOUT/CASUAL SHORTS

I bought a pair of these for Ray for Christmas one year and this brand has become a favorite of his. These shorts are great especially for vacation. You can wear them around town, swim in them (they dry so quickly) and they have built in underwear. Birddogs for the win. SHOP HERE

SUNGLASSES

Ray found this random sunglass brand and has had these for years. Great knock around glasses when he’s not in his Tom Ford Pair HERE, he’s in his Peppers, SHOP HERE

BRANDED GEAR

He has picked up items from brands he loves here and there. A few of his branded go-tos. Anything Athletic Brewing. They have some very cool gear including some great mens face masks…the kind you pull up (face gaiters). SHOP HERE. Another favorite. Siete Gear, SHOP HERE

DRESS IS FROM ESTIKE THE SKETCHY/INSTAGRAM AD WEBSITE. I LIKE THIS ONE BUT WARNING IT CAME WITH WRAP STRAPS ABOUT AN INCH BELOW THE SEAM ON THE SIDE OF THE DRESS. WEIRD PLACEMENT. I HAD THEM REMOVED AND FOR $25 PLACED THEM OVER THE STRAPS AT THE SHOULDERS SO I COULD TIE BOWS. MATERIAL IS POLYESTER…ACTUALLY DOESN’T BOTHER ME TOO MUCH ON THIS PIECE. QUEBEC WHAT I PACKED FOR A WEEKEND IN WINTER WONDERLAND

QUEBEC PACKING. GUIDE

As many of you know we took a trip to Quebec City and it was COLD. I’m sharing everything I wore to keep warm while still looking cute! I am forever grateful for my amazing base layer and only wish I had the base layer pants as well. My base layer tops got me through this trip with minimal discomfort. I also ordered a big box of hand warmers and a base layer glove that helped keep me warm. That combined with a super warm jacket made our trip very enjoyable even with the low temps. All UPPERCASE words are clickable.

airport

We took two early morning flights and I only care about comfort when I fly, especially in the morning. This matching set makes it feel like you are wearing a cozy blanket and was perfect for both flights.

FALL BASICS

MY GO TO LOOKS

Fall is my favorite season. There are so many reasons why including the drop in temps, the fun fall festivities, and the cozy clothes! When someone asked me to throw together my favorite fall basics I got very excited. I hope you love these as much as I do. I came up with my top picks and then created a bunch of looks for different occasions. I don't own everything because I wanted to give you options based on price points + personal preference. Most are casual because I’m a very casual dresser, but I tried to add in options for anything life may throw your way. If you enjoyed this and want to see dressier looks, and mom uniform looks (think leggings) as well, please go comment on my Instagram post.

P.S. When you scroll over an item the price you see does not always reflect the sale price.

enjoy

back to school for the boys

I love H&M, and it shouldn't come as a surprise as the boy's wardrobe is pretty much all H&M plus a little Janie + Jack here and there. Charlie is pretty skinny but 70th percent for height. He is turning three in October and fits in size 12-18 months. I sized up and bought his back to school clothes in size 1.5-2-year-old so we can get more wear out of these. H&M runs very big. Charlie goes to a school where they spend most of the day outdoors. This rain suit is fantastic as they spend hours in the rain. We usually buy hunter rain boots, but they are pretty expensive, and H&M has very similar ones which I added.

I'm kind of in the less is more camp right now with kid's clothing. Charlie could care less around what he wears, and in the past, we've had too many options. I'm purchasing a bunch of these polo shirts which I plan on monogramming. His school uniform will consist of those + pants. Keeps our back to school process E-A-S-Y. I added some sweaters and sweatshirts for fall weather.

SHOPPING AT CHICWISH

CHICWISH, MY GUIDE TO SUMMER SHOPPING

I placed my first order at Chicwish 2 years ago as we were getting ready to leave for our summer vacation. I was thinking about summer shopping this year when it dawned on me that the few pieces I ordered were not only my most worn items over the last 2 years but also my most complimented pieces.

Chicwish is a great place to find clothing that is inspired by many high fashion items but for a fraction of the price. It comes from China so it does take a few weeks to get to you but in my opinion it’s worth the wait. I’ve never shopped their winter line but their summer clothing has exceeded my expectations. Check out their instagram and pictures of people wearing their clothing on their site below the listed item so you can get a better sense of how it looks IRL. This is kind of a hit or miss place but I’ve had a high success rate. Everything I order has been TTS.

I have all of these items + highly recommend. Everything is under $79. The long floral dress is inspired by a Zimmerman dress. The Zimmerman dress retails for $700 and mine was $79. I’ve seen the Zimmerman dress IRL and they look identical.

POSTPARTUM + BREASTFEEDING FRIENDLY DRESSES

POSTPARTUM STYLE

Dressing in anything but yoga pants and loose fitted tops can be daunting during those first six months postpartum. Breastfeeding specific clothing can be quite the investment. I personally shopped for breastfeeding friendly clothing that was not specifically designed for breastfeeding, so I could save money. I also was a little underwhelmed by the clothing specifically designed for breastfeeding.

Summer can be a difficult time to breastfeed in public because most of us live in dresses during these months. Unfortunately with dresses, sticking your child up the dress is pretty much off limits so the only way to feed would be pulling the top of the dress down, which could result in stretching the dress out. That’s why for casual dresses, I look for dresses that button from the chest up. These dresses give the best access without ruining the dress.

The dress below is one of the best breastfeeding dresses I’ve found. You don’t even need a cover when you breastfeed because you can basically fit your entire child’s head right under the unbuttoned portion of the dress. It also covers some common postpartum problem areas such as arms + thighs. Best part?! It’s fully lined and still comes in at under $100. You can find it, HERE. I am wearing a small and I had plenty of room.

June18TheMrsNipple-2.jpg

Here are other breastfeeding friendly options. Some are two pieces that look like dresses so you can breastfeed under the top + the rest are button downs. I want to be clear that I only can 100 percent recommend the one I own + I have not seen the dresses below in person.

NEWBORN

DUDLEY STEPHENS X MRS.NIPPLE

Maternity & Postpartum

I know many of you are on the hunt for that perfect fall piece to add to your mom uniform. In my opinion Dudley Stephens is it!

Co-founders Kaki Mcgrath and Lauren Stephens created the idea for Dudley Stephens when endlessly searching for fleece that could be used in a fashionable way. Growing up in New England towns they lived in fleece jackets year round. "Fleece was the perfect solution for warmth and comfort, while being easy to wash, environmentally friendly and stylish." Dudley Stephens designs and creates stylish silhouettes using fleece fabric that are comfortable, easy to wear, and that look and feel good. Kaki and Lauren are both local moms and as a team they have a wealth of experience in both the fashion and marketing world.

Though the Dudley Stephen’s line is not maternity/postpartum specific every one of the pieces works well for both pregnant and postpartum moms. They even have the most adorable little girls fleeces as well.

Before I get into why I love Dudley Stephens I wanted to share a 20 percent off code that the co-founders agreed to make available to you for today only. Use the code MRSNIPPLE20 for a one time discount of 20% off your ENTIRE order

You can find out a few reasons below why I love Dudley Stephens but I would like to take a minute to talk about how certain features are very important for pregnant and new moms.

When I was pregnant I lived in leggings, my main concern was comfort. The Dudley Stephens Cobble Hill Turtleneck is perfect during pregnancy and beyond. It is super slimming and gives you the perfect amount of coverage hitting below both the butt and upper thighs. The upper thighs seem to be my problem area post baby and this cut does wonders for my confidence.

I also love the Pacific Vest in Double Layer Vello Fleece, Chrissy from In My Closet Blog, is it wearing below. You can throw it over anything and still accomplish both that slimming and pulled together look. It’s also perfect during pregnancy and will take you from pre-pregnancy through delivery to post baby.

The Brooklyn Bomber jacket is another one of my favorites. It’s perfect for both breastfeeding and baby wearing. It also happens to be the most comfortable thing on earth. The brushed fleece is so soft.

As a mom with young kids I always think about the fabric! My boys have sensitive skin and wearing something soft that’s made right here in Brooklyn makes this line that much better. “It’s crafted there with sustainable, non-iron vello fleece (read: super soft, non-wrinkling, easy wash) spun from recycled yarn.”-ds

Check out some styling tips from Chrissy (In My Closet Blog) & myself below. Take advantage of the discount code at the end of this post! Dudley Stephens very rarely offers a discount this good.

IMG_2330.jpg

“As a busy mom with one more on the way, I get dressed on the go, which can be quite the challenge—so I have a few go-to pieces I can throw on and walk out the door feeling put together. The Cobble Hill is definitely one—the length is perfect for moms and easily fits my growing bump. I love how I can wear it with leggings and sneakers one day and skinny jeans and cute flats the next." -Chrissy, In My Closet Blog

IMG_2332.jpg

IMG_2331.jpg

"Another favorite: the Pacific Vest. Talk about the perfect layering piece, especially over my large belly. It effortlessly pulls an outfit together; I love pairing it with a button-down top and jeans. The best part about my DS pieces is that I can continue to wear them post baby!"  -Chrissy, @inmyclosetblog

“Confidence after giving birth can be a struggle, but the Dudley Stephens line is the perfect postpartum uniform. Not only does the material hold up incredibly well after spit-ups and other mishaps, but the pieces are just as functional (pockets!) as they are beautiful, something every new mom needs."

IMG_2337.JPG

"Many have a length that’s extremely slimming for the postpartum body, while still providing easy breastfeeding access—and your newborn will always feel cozy against the soft fleece."

If you will be baby-wearing this fall, the Brooklyn Bomber is a must! My five-month- old fits perfectly, all warm and cozy underneath, and I had both hands free during our recent apple picking trip.

More bump-friendly fleece here and here.

HERE ARE MY PICKS:

You can click on anything in bold to check that specific product out.

The Brooklyn Bomber jacket: Caramel brushed fleece

The Cobble Hill Turtleneck ( for a little more coverage) or the Park Slope Turtleneck for a short look, perfect for tucking. My favorite colors are, navy, red, island coral, heather grey, marigold, green, burgundy and natural blush…I love them all!

Pacific Vest in Double Layer Vello Fleece: I love this for layering. Both the navy and brushed black fleece are on my list.

Remsen Blazer in Double Layer Vello Fleece: Love this look and the Tilden Turtleneck Dress especially for the holidays and the office.

SIZING

PREGNANT MAMAS: I would size up at least one size. Doing this will allow you to grow into the fleece yet you will still be able to wear it postpartum.

EVERYONE ELSE: Think about how you want the fleece to fit. I ordered the Brooklyn Bomber jacket in a small and it fits perfectly. I also ordered the black Cobble Hill Turtleneck in a small. I don’t mind the more fitted look with the black but when I order my next few (today) I’m going to go with the medium because I like to have some room. I’m usually between a small and medium because of my broad shoulders.

Use the code MRSNIPPLE20 for a one time 20% off your ENTIRE order from 6am-midnight today only.

BIG ANNOUNCEMENT

Now for my fun announcement! As I mentioned earlier Dudley Stephens is run by two moms and they are an inspiration to other moms trying to create something in the entrepreneurial space. That being said, I feel like this is the perfect opportunity to announce the name for something I will be launching in February. I did an instagram poll last week presenting both names for my future business, Mom Friends by Mrs. Nipple vs. Mrs Nipple & Co. Many of you also gave me your ideas which cracked me up! Some of my favorites, Nipple Nation and The Daily Nip. It was a landslide and it seemed like everyone wanted to keep the nip front and center so it will be called, Mrs. Nipple & Co.! As always thank you for your continued support on this journey.

HELLO FALL

My recent fall shopping trip & my fall wardrobe staples

IMG_2285.jpg

Check out a few finds from a recent shopping trip + my fall staples from previous years. I included photos of myself in some of the pieces below each category. At the end you will find all the products.

  1. DENIM:

I wasn’t really on the hunt for denim because I’ll be living in THIS pair for the rest of the fall but I came across the pair of awesome wide leg cropped jeans below. I fell in love. They look great with a pair of cool sneakers or booties. I’ve never purchased a pair of jeans this cheap and I’m so impressed. I would say they are true to size and need be washed often because they do stretch out. You can shop them below under denim.

2. SWEATERS:

Ok this is what I was really on the hunt for. H&M did not disappoint. I’m not sure if they changed some things around at manufacturing but the quality seemed much better than previous years. I tried on and purchased all of the sweaters below. I love every single one. I love the look of a chunky sweater tucked into wide leg jeans like the ones above.

3. VEST: My favorite purchase from last fall was this really cool long sweater vest. Also perfect for breastfeeding. I was pretty upset because it sold out right after I bought it and I wanted to buy it in one more color. I have the green/navy reversible vest and the tan is on my wish list.

4. BOOTS:

ALL WEATHER WEDGE BOOTIES: I love my pair of all weather wedge booties. I bought them in black but also love the brown. I wore them all fall/winter long and they still look great.

RAIN BOOTS: I bought my first pair of Hunter rain boots ever last year. I basically waited so long because I think they are pretty ugly. I just hate when you walk in them and they bend and change shape in the strangest ways. That’s until I found the ultimate Hunter rain boot. The Norris Field Neoprene Lined Hunter Rain Boot. These are your average hunter boots on crack. They are made from a new soft rubber compound that maintains strength, while being flexible to allow ease of movement. Meaning your legs wont look like they are made out of play dough. You can find my full review of them, HERE.

BOOTIES: These booties are my favorite for fall. They wore beautifully and I can’t wait to rock them again this year. Last year they sold out very quickly so I would grab these ASAP. You can shop them, below.

OVER THE KNEE BOOTS: OBSESSED. So obsessed. I’ve been looking for a good over the knee boot for years and I can’t wait to pair these with beautiful flowey dresses and skirts. I wore them through last fall and they are still looking great. WORTH the price tag.

WEDGE SNEAKER: I love this camo print wedge sneaker.

JACKETS

RAIN JACKET: I bought this for Ireland and it did not disappoint. I absolutely love the material, it holds it shape perfectly no matter what. You will look completely tailored in this rain jacket, even when it’s pouring buckets.

SUADE JACKET: I love everything about my Blank NYC suede jacket. Black for the winter brown for the fall. It’s such a great staple that won’t go out of style.

LIGHT WEIGHT JACKET: I’m not a brand person but my Barbour jacket was such a good purchase. It is so sharp looking. I still love it just as much as the day I bought it.

COAT: You know that one piece of clothing people stop you in the street about? I bought a J. Crew color block coat a few years ago and I cant tell you how many times I’ve been stopped about it. The navy coat below is up there is my opinion with my color block coat. I plan on ordering it soon as sizes are running low.

SKIRTS: This classic faux suede skirt with buttons up the center looks so great with the over the knee boots above. I also love the flowey flower print skirt you can rock it with booties or sneakers and a chunky sweater with a slight tuck. perfection!

DRESSES: I love a flowey dress with over the knee boots and a fall vest or chunky sweater/cardigan. You can find some pictures of ones I wore last fall below. I can’t find my favorite from last year but this is similar, HERE.

HATS: I love hat attack for everything hats. You can find my favorites below.

DUDLEY STEPHENS will be my new go to for everything fall this year. I’ve been wearing my pull over and new bomber a ton. check back on Thursday for an awesome collaboration.

BACK TO SCHOOL BOY PICKS

Back to school & little boys

IMG_4576.JPG

Here are my little boy picks for back to school! They spend a ton of time outside at Charlie's new school so I included rain overalls. I didn't even know they existed, they are like snow pants but for the rain! I'm so happy I found them. I realized Charlie was pretty much out of clothing because I've been squeezing him into clothing from last summer. He will have a bunch of new options for his first year of school. I'm not that into busy character tops for kids but I find myself caving more and more because I know certain tops will make Charlie happy. He's not that into Disney characters yet but I included some fun options. Out of all of the busy or character tees we just got the one with the bus and one with tractors. H&M always has great Disney & Sesame Street options with out the $$$ price tags. All of the clothing below comes in baby - 4 years old. I'm a big fan of H&M for kids. They use organic cotton for some of their clothing and it seems to hold up better than some other popular baby brands I've tried.

We got Charlie's backpack from Monogram Mary. It's navy seersucker and is going to have a truck on it with his name. I wanted to give him something he would be so excited about on the morning of his first day. Knowing Charlie he will be talking about his truck backpack all day long. She also makes a very cute pink seersucker option. You can shop the bags, HERE. There is also a matching snack pack & lunch box. You can shop them, HERE & HERE. She also makes a great children's tote. This is a great extra bag to send your child to school with or to keep at their school for an extra pair of clothes and things like that. You can find the tote, HERE.

BACK TO SCHOOL PICKS FOR THE LITTLE GIRL IN YOUR LIFE

BACK TO SCHOOL & GIRL PICKS

How cute is my niece?? I love shopping for little girls clothing. Everything is so adorable. If I had a little girl her style would definitely have some edge. My go to for most kids clothings is H&M. Surprisingly they do use nice material for many of their kids clothing, many items being made with organic cotton. I also have had good experience with H&M clothing lasting through multiple washes. Ford wears so much of Charlie's old clothing which is mostly H&M and it's still in great shape. I usually size up when buying kids clothing because I would like it to last as long as possible. Check out my top back to school picks below! These sizes range from baby - 4 years old.

JOGGERS & JEAN JACKETS

CASUAL STYLE & FIT

I'm the queen of comfort that looks cute! These linen joggers are not only extremely comfortable but also a versatile piece. You can dress them up or down! Most importantly.....they are ultra slimming. I'm 145 pounds in the picture above and have 20 pounds to drop from just delivering my son. You can hardly tell! Wearing clothing that hits you in all the right places is key. It's been almost three weeks since these were shot and I have not lost one pound. I have been focusing on eating healthy and exercising but hormones are king! When my body is ready I will start shedding the weight, but for now I'm paying extra close attention to how my clothing fits.

SLIMMING TIPS

-CREATE A WAIST: Sometimes your body can get lost in oversized tops. Unless you are at your happy weight this can make you look larger instead of smaller. Try tucking in a small area of the top in the front to create a waist.

-COVER AREAS YOU ARE SELF CONSCIOUS ABOUT AND EXPOSE AREAS YOU ARE PROUD OF: I'm not loving my lower stomach area, upper thighs, and upper arms right now but it's getting hot so I needed to get creative. I chose joggers because they sit above my lower stomach and hit me in all the right places. To cover my upper arms I threw on a jean jacket that is just sitting over my outfit.

-FIT IS KEY: Where clothing sits on your body can make all the difference in the world. Pants that are loose throughout the leg and tight at the ankle have an ultra slimming effect. I'll be living in this linen pair all summer long.

You can find the Joggers (they come in 4 colors), HERE

You can find the jean jacket, HERE.

MDW READY

WEEKEND ROUNDUP

I've already worn this top twice and I only purchased it a week ago. It's light weight and perfect for the unpredictable weather we are having where you're not too sure if it's going to be hot or cool. Perfect top for MDW and it's also 40 percent off right now! You can find it HERE. It pairs perfectly with my zodiac Asha necklace. I have a bigger charm for me (scorpio) and two smaller signs for the boys. You can shop the necklace, HERE. You can pair the look with my favorite sneakers HERE, my favorite flip flops HERE or mules HERE, HERE & HERE.

I'm slightly obsessed with the pig purse below! It is a Cult Gaia piece. I love it paired with this outfit and could also see it looking awesome with any summer sundress. When you are not using it as a bag it could also make the perfect statement piece in any nursery.

The boys are in these adorable shark sweaters. Shop for them, HERE. You can find another option perfect for MDW HERE. I also got Charlie these very patriotic shoes and linked them HERE.

Postpartum maternity style tip: You can pair this top with maternity jeans that have the expanders on the sides. This way you can still tuck in the blouse to create a waist which can be very slimming.

NAME REGRET

NAME REGRET & MATERNITY

I want to point out that I love the name Charlie, and Charles Everett is a strong beautiful name, but i still have anxiety when looking back on our baby naming experience.

I hate the title of this post. It sounds terrible, but it is something some women really struggle with and it should be addressed. I was one of those women. Name regret is something that can be avoided. This is a two part series. The first part tells my story & the second part is an interview with name advice from Abby Sandel of Nameberry and Appellation Mountain.

MY STORY

My husband prefers traditional and I prefer modern names with roots. That's where the baby naming stress started. I finally found a family name I loved but my husband was not on board. At 6 months pregnant we had two long lists (girl/boy names) of many many options, however none stood out more than the others and there were many we just could not agree on. I finally got my husband on board to use the family name if we had a boy, but we still kept the long list of options open.

A week before I went into labor,  I started second guessing my favorite name, the one that I had fought for. Would it suit him? Would he get made fun of?  Is it the right name?  I also felt like I couldn't ask other people their opinions because I didn't want them to say they hated it. At that moment I made my biggest mistake, I turned to someone I always turn to when in doubt, my mother. Usually, she is the perfect person for advice but she has a very traditional style. I wanted her to tell me she loved the name, I just needed some reassurence.

I told her the name, and.......

"WHAT?! That is a terrible name!?."

I started to panic. There was so much about to change in my life and I needed support in that moment. It's not her fault, she is allowed to have an opinion. I started seriously looking into other names and we ended up bringing a list to the hospital, four names for girls, four names for boys, even though my favorite was still a front runner. We figured we would see the baby and know what the name should be. If only it were that easy...

Fast forward and we are presented with a beautiful baby boy, and the first question was, what is his name? In that moment, all of that anxiety that had been tucked away for the last week came back. I just had the craziest experience in my life (delivering a baby) and now I have to pick a lifelong name? Oh, and by the way, you are on the clock and only have 48 hours. I always pictured my baby to have dark hair and he came out a redhead. Would my very Irish name be too Irish for a red head? Does he actually look like the name I loved for him? What if everyone hates it? As a first time mom, I didn't realize how much my baby would change. I was trying to fit a name to this little infant and I was feeling very overwhelmed. My husband decided we should sleep on, it so we did. I woke up and didn't feel any closer to a final decision, so we started asking nurses and doctors, even the guy who delivered my breakfast. We had a white board in our room with a tally. No! I'm not joking. We narrowed it down to two names, our original and one name we didn't even go to the hospital with. Much of my uncertainty came from that conversation the previous week. We ended up going with the new name and everything seemed great. Fast forward 2 days later and I woke up with anxiety that we had picked the wrong name.

Then I started thinking, is this a form of PPD? Is this normal? I want to love his name! Why don't I? Has this happened to anyone else?  I didn't know where to turn so I reached out to the founders of Nameberry and....they responded to my email. (I just looked back at my email and I truly sounded like a crazy person) Yet, I knew I couldn't fix this, but I needed to know how to make it right for baby #2. They told me this very same thing, that happened to me, happens to many people.

I love the name Charlie. I can't imagine our baby as any other name, I just wish it was a less stressful experience.

Here are some tips I learned from my experience to help others that are having trouble picking a name.

MRS. NIPPLE BABY NAMING TIPS

- Go with your gut

- If you know someone has a completely different style than you, it might be better not to share the name with them

-I personally think you should wait to share the name until after your baby is born

-Start having the baby name conversation early so you can test it out with your partner

- Pick a first name then pick a middle name. Don't compare first and middle names when choosing. You really don't use middle names.

INTERVIEW WITH ABBY SANDEL

Now that I'm pregnant with baby #2, I reached out to Abby Sandel, the name guru. That also happens to be the senior editor and resident name sage of Nameberry and founder of the name blog, Appellation Mountain. I wanted to get the right tips and advice from a name specialist. She also offers professional advice to couples who are struggling with naming their baby. FUN FACTS: Her kids names are, Alex and Clio. Alexander Arthur (He has resisted all attempts by Abby to use a more creative nickname.) He just turned 13. (HOW?!) and Clio - Claire Caroline Wren. (She's cool with all the crazy nicknames, and then some.) She's 9. And name-obsessed! Abby's top pick for a 2018 baby for herself would be Leif Christopher Clark for a boy (my children think this name is bananas) and Rosemary "Romy" or Theodora "Thora" - or maybe Marguerite, for a girl.

My Interview with Abby:

1) Where should you start when trying to find the perfect name?

Many couples have an idea about favorite names and jump right in to the process. That can work out beautifully ... or it can result in deadlock, when it turns out that their preferences are miles apart.

For any couple who is stuck or just not sure where to begin, I'd recommend starting with your own names. Have you always liked having a family name? Does it bother you if your name is too unusual/too common? Tough to spell or pronounce? You might be new to naming a child, but you're not new to having a name. Draw on that life experience to reflect on the kind of name you'd like your child to have.

Then consider qualities that you want in a child's name. These aren't rules - and families I work with often don't follow the guidelines they identify. But it's a good place to start. Talking about qualities is neutral; arguing about whether or not to honor your beloved grandmother is not.

So discuss up front: do you want to use family names? Do you want to follow specific naming traditions, like choosing saints' names if you're Catholic? Honor a specific background, whether it's Irish or Pakistani? How do you feel about nicknames? Does the name need to work in more than one language? Are there names that you love - even if you can't use them - that can help define the kind of name you'd like your child to have?

If you're naming a second child, you might want to avoid repeating first initials. Or if you honored one side of the family with your firstborn's middle name, it might feel really important to choose a middle from the other side this time around.

2) What things should someone think about when naming a baby?

We name strangers. It's impossible to know who our children will grow up to be, so building in some flexibility in a name is a good thing. If you're choosing a really unusual first name, consider a more traditional or mainstream middle. (Azalea Eleanor is likely a better choice than Azalea Finch.)

We focus on how our peers perceive names - but our children will grow up with their generation. Names like Ellis and Thea will be ordinary for kids born today. That means that you can safely ignore much of what your friends (and random strangers on message boards) say about names. This is doubly true for our parents and grandparents. Much as we love them, we probably don't share the same taste in names. The names of the mid-1960s were Julie, Tammy, and Michelle; Scott, Jeffrey, and Brian. So a normal name to our parents is not likely to be a favorite for us today, and that's fine.

Know that you can't control nicknames indefinitely. Sure, you can insist that Henry is Henry. But if he comes home freshman year answering to Hank, that's his choice. If you love a name, but dislike the default nickname, it might be a problem. Telling everyone that your son is William, not Will? That's a recipe for frustration.

Meaning matters - but not necessarily in the etymological sense. The best insulation against name regret is having a story about why the name appealed to you. It doesn't have to be a made-for-TV tale of going into labor right after hiking in some scenic park and deciding to name the baby for the trail. But knowing why you chose the name is powerful.

3) What if a couples style in baby names is drastically different?

This happens ALL the time.

First, know that compromise isn't a bad thing. There's a good chance that you'll come to love your child's name as your child grows. Many parents say things like, "Oh I wasn't sure about naming our son after Grandpa Marvin, but now the name suits him perfectly."

Accept that you may have to give up your favorite names. Yes, even if you've been keeping a list since you were twelve.

Look for places where you do overlap. Maybe you like your names long and vintage, while your partner prefers short and modern. Maybe you can find a short, but vintage name, like Vera or Ada? Or a name that sounds modern, like Arlo, but has lots of history, too.

I've heard it called "narrowing up" - instead of looking for reasons to reject the names on your list, look for positive reasons to embrace them. It elevates the conversation, and helps you identify why a name appeals so strongly.

4) When choosing names for siblings, should they all flow?

I think the most important part when naming siblings isn't flow, but balance.

Unless you're the Von Trapps or the Jacksons, most of your life is led independently, and many friends and colleagues won't know your sibling's names - or if you have siblings.

But children - at least some of the time - may notice if their names are very different. If your firstborn will be named for a family member, what makes your second child's name special? If one child has a really unusual name, and the other a very popular one, is there a story that you can tell both kids when they ask?

Flow is a helpful concept in this sense: when you say your children's names together, does it sound right to you? Because you will say your kids' names together, dozens of hundreds of times. And if you trip over the names, that's a signal that you need to rethink. Maybe the names share too many sounds, or maybe one is much longer than the others. Those are the kind of differences you may be able to live with - but you should make a deliberate decision rather than discover it after you've brought home your newborn!

5) If you could give one piece of advice around naming a baby what would it be?

Use the name you love.

Yes, even if it's very popular, or rather obscure. Even if it breaks the rules you read online, or even if others tell you it's just awful. When you and your partner find The Name, you'll know. Don't let yourself be talked out of it.

6) What is your advice around choosing between two names you love?

That's so hard! If time allows, I'd try testing them both: writing them out by hand, plugging them into those design-your-own sites online to see how they look embroidered on a backpack, and calling your baby by that name for a few days. The coffee shop test can work, too - in any situation when someone asks for your name, give your favorites - and see if one feels better.

The issue here is that often one parent prefers Logan, while the other has her heart set on Landon. There's no substantial difference, just a slight preference. When that happens, sometimes reading about the names can reveal a fact that sways you in one direction or the other. A meaning might resonate with you both, or a famous figure by the name.

Lastly, there's something to be said for giving in to the person who cares more. We didn't do this when naming our son - I clamped down on my instinct to over-analyze it, and we went with the first name we agreed on. (I spent the first few weeks suggesting that we change his middle name.) With our daughter, I thought and re-thought the decision. My husband knew it was super important to me, and realized that we were talking about adding a second middle name - trivial to him, critical to me, and so there was no reason not to do it my way.

7) Should the opinions of others matter?

In one sense, yes. If you're choosing an unusual name, it's worth checking whether others can pronounce it. Or whether they'll pronounce it in a way that sounds all wrong to your ears. So a little bit of road-testing is good - but that doesn't need to be with your friends and family. You can give your favorite name to a barista at a coffee shop and see how that works.

But generally, no. Everybody has opinions about baby names. But those who are changing the diapers and waking up at 3 am, they're the ones who get to choose.

THE PERFECT WINTER TO SPRING LOO

STYLE

I'm going to keep this short and sweet. I love wearing white in winter, I love boyfriend jeans and I love a jacket with detail.

JEANS

I've been wearing Citizen boyfriend jeans for a few years and they are my favorite. I love the detailing on this pair. It's the perfect amount of white with just the right touch of ivory.

SWEATER

This is a classic you can keep for years. Sometimes it's hard to find just the right whites in winter for white on white looks. These two pieces work well together

Jacket

This jacket is on major sale and I'm hooked. It's works well for layering during the winter months and is the perfect jacked that can be worn during that transition time from winter to spring. I also love the pink hood and fringe. Oh, and it's on MAJOR sale.

MOM UNIFORM, LEISUREWEAR ALL DAY EVERYDAY

STYLE, LEISUREWEAR

There's nothing like feeling comfortable and still looking somewhat put together. The topic is workout gear and the question is did she actually workout? No on will know if you worked out or just threw on a cute athletic outfit to get through the day. I call this look my mom uniform because it's pretty much what I live in when I'm not working and this trend in my life started right after I had Charlie. I didn't actually find my go-to brand, Zella, until recently and I'm hooked. I stocked up on a few pieces that I really loved for our recent trip to Sedona, which are all linked below. I also included maternity options!

Now lets talk about my new love, Zella. I'm hooked. Zella is sold at Nordstrom and after doing some digging I came across some interesting information. Libby Vance, a former Lululemon Product Manager, took a Creative Director position at Nordstrom to help create the Zella brand. You will find some similarities between Zella and Lulu, but I would choose Zella over Lulu any day of the week. Zella has the same quality as Lululemon but at a much better price point.

LAYERING FOR COLD WEATHER In the perfect gift

NOVEMBER LOOKS, VOL. 8

When I find a brand I love, I want to shout it from the mountain tops. Good thing I started a blog. In all seriousness, I stumbled upon the brand FatFace this summer while in Newport, RI., and I fell in love with one of their staple pieces. The FatFace Airlie Sweatshirt is a purchase you will still be wearing in ten years, I'm not kidding. This pullover is produced using industrial strength sewing machines which are needed for its heavy pique fabric. Very few factories in the world can make it making it truly a unique piece. It's made from a very tough material that is never going to stretch or wear. When I purchased the sweatshirt I'm wearing,  FatFace did not have a women's line. I'm wearing a mens SMALL. FatFace just released a women's line with one print. The men’s style has a boxier fit, but either can work! This would also be the perfect gift for any man in your life. I wish you could feel the quality of the fabric. Another bonus is it's 100% cotton and can be worn all year long.

Mrs. Nipple tips for layering pieces:

Try and stay in the same color family if you are mixing prints

Mix many different materials and textures, don't just stick to one

Don't wear anything too bulky, if you do, keep it to one piece, preferably the last piece

Have fun with it!

Things I can get behind:

  1. A quality piece that will last for years under $100

  2. Layers. Am I the only one that thinks about Shrek everytime I say layers?

  3. Barbour and spending money on traditional pieces that will never go out of style

  4. Stripes year round

  5. Finding the perfect gift for someone

A few more tips around layering from the one and only Lauren Conrad, which if you were born around 1985 you know her as LC. Find her tips HERE

There are slight changes between styles, some have pockets and some do not. The men's line has a patch detail over the elbow.
